Daytime meeting - 11am “Being our best—physically and mentally”

The YMCA of Greater Rochester has served the Flour City area for 155 years.

For January’s interactive and casual meeting, we are urged to wear our sneakers to participate in some physical and mental activity. Tracy Battaglia and Lisa O’Connor, staffers at the Y’s Southeast Branch in Pittsford, strive to re-motivate us following the holidays. They present an overview of the Y’s extensive roster of programs and classes. Our input is requested on how the Y can better serve the hard of hearing community.

Ms. Battaglia is the Program Coordinator for Aquatics and Active Older Adults at the Southeast Y, where she’s worked since 2001. She teaches, trains and coordinates the branch Water Fitness Programs. They Y has water fitness classes for those with neurological conditions, water yoga, and exercise with hydrobikes.

Ms. O'Connor worked for 15 years with people of many fitness levels and health needs.

    (This presentation is Audiolooped.)

    Evening meeting - 7pm
“An insider’s view of current and future hearing enhancement technologies”

David Eddins, PhD, discusses the major goals of using hearing enhancement technologies and how to achieve those goals. While providing an overview of several new technological advances, he speculates on future technologies based on what exists now. In the context of reviewing several recent research studies, the audience will learn how new technologies are evaluated and the interpretation of such investigations.

Dr. Eddins is an associate professor in the Dept. of Otolaryngology, University of Rochester, and a Senior Scientist at the International Center for Hearing and Speech research at RIT. His areas of expertise are hearing science, amplification, the aging auditory system, and auditory perception.

(This presentation is Audiolooped and real time captioned. Those needing a sign language interpreter should contact Linda Siple at 585 475 6712.)

All programs are held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, corner of East Avenue and Westminster Road, across from George Eastman House. Both programs have the induction loop for those with a T-switch.
