Daytime meeting 11a.m. “Coping with hearing loss: a panel
discussion” Jeannette Kanter, facilitator
The average person waits about seven years before beginning to cope somewhat
constructively with a hearing loss. Many cope by doing nothing; others, by
delaying until their loss is severe. The “stars” take action
immediately. This panel presentation touches on all these interventions.
Panelists are:
Michelle Gross - Retired from a long career in sports physical
therapy, she has become one of our most active members. Her hearing loss
began when she
was 12 years old and continues to the present.
Shamai Kanter earned his Ph. D. in Philosophy and Religion
from Brown University and has been a practicing rabbi since his ordination
in 1955. He spent 21
years as spiritual head of Temple Beth El. He has extensive experience with
hearing loss because his wife, Jeannette, has been severely hard of hearing
since the 1970’s. Shamai was fitted with two hearing aids two years
ago.
Lynn Hudson has had a hearing loss since childhood and
has worn
hearing aids most of his life. He obtained a cochlear implant in 2007.

of professional audiologists

things, you are asked to submit your questions about hearing loss in writing
for the panel to explore.
This panel consists of:
John McNamara Au.D. Owner of Ontario Hearing Instruments/Audiology
Associates since 1989, whose business specializes in hearing diagnostics,
amplification,
assistive listening devices and home service.
Stephen Hart Au.D. Founded Hart Hearing Centers in 1977.

and eight support
staff.

Centers since 1979. Earned her Au.D. from University of Florida.
