    Rochester Walk4Hearing raises $50,000

    Young walkers enjoy the event.

A letter of thanks to all who supported 2011 Walk4Hearing...

Thank you for all that you did, to make this walk the most successful to date: We raised $10,000 more than we did last year, for a grand total of $50,000!

It was your support, and your superb attendance at the walk, that made the difference. We had 450 people in Perinton Town Park, some to walk, some to run, and lots to cheer us on.

    And that means:
we can support our high school students going into college,
we can get the word out about hearing loss,
we can try to target the baby boomers who have a hearing loss and are not doing anything about it yet,
we can support the captioning of Broadway shows coming into Rochester, and
we can support our armed forces and returning veterans by educating them about hearing loss.

It's all because of your work and your diligence that we are able to do as much as we can do, to improve the quality of life for all our friends, family and community, who have a hearing loss or who know someone with a hearing loss.

We thank you and appreciate your willingness to involve yourself and others in this important cause.

Have a great summer. You deserve it!

Captioned Telephone News

Sprint WebCapTel® Solution Shows Captions over the Internet During Phone Calls; Facilitating Easier Conversations

Sprint WebCapTel is a web-based service that allows a person who can speak but has difficulty hearing over the phone to read word-for-word captions of their call on a web browser during the call, while at the same time hearing the other person using any telephone.

A user would make or receive calls while logged into a website (www.sprintcaptel.com) and hear the person on the other line using their own cell phone, desk phone, cordless phone, or even an amplified phone. The user (if they have any residual hearing) hears the person speaking through any telephone, not through the internet or web browser. During the call, captions appear on the user's web browser.

What equipment does one need to make or receive calls on WebCapTel?
A user only needs three things:

A computer with web browser
An internet connection to the computer
A working telephone that can receive calls
